The Columbia University Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery at Lawrence Hospital
The Columbia University Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery at Lawrence Hospital is a Bariatric Center of Excellence Level 1B facility. This designation from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) means that Lawrence has met the essential criteria that ensures it is fully capable of supporting a bariatric surgery care program and that its institutional performance meets the requirements outlined by the ACS BSCN Accreditation Program.
With special expertise in minimally invasive approaches, the Center offers a full range of weight loss surgeries including laparoscopic gastric banding, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and laparoscopic gastric bypass. We pride ourselves in our comprehensive approach to weight management, which incorporates a multidisciplinary team including nurse practitioners, registered dietitians, and psychologists. Once patients have reached their stable weight, we offer them body contouring
procedures in collaboration with our plastic surgery colleagues.

Weight Loss Surgery Support Group
The Columbia University Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery at Lawrence Hospital also invites you to attend its Bariatric (Weight Loss) Surgery Support Group meeting. Attendees will discover what to expect after surgery; how to incorporate new and important diet restrictions; identify strategies for adjusting to a slimmer you; and learn from others who’ve been on the same journey. The Bariatric (Weight Loss) Surgery Support Group meetings are free and open to the public. They take place on the first Wednesday of each month. To learn more go to the News and Events section of our website or call 914-787-4000 to sign up.
Also, research has found that many obese patients are at risk for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). People with sleep apnea literally stop breathing repeatedly during their sleep, often for a minute or longer and as many as hundreds of times during a single night. If you think you may be at risk, you can contact The Center for Sleep Medicine at Lawrence Hospital to learn more about a sleep study at 914-787-4400.
In addition, Lawrence Hospital Center has a partnership with the Columbia University Medical Center, Department of Surgery in New York City to provide patients with additional weight loss services.
Once patients have reached their stable weight, we offer them body contouring procedures in collaboration with our plastic surgery colleagues.
