Emergency Department at Lawrence Hospital Center Gets New Look

Bronxville, NY (March 30, 2007) – Lawrence Hospital Center in Bronxville has unveiled its newly designed ultra-modern Emergency Department (ED) Waiting Room and Registration Area. The 3000 square foot space has been reconfigured to better accommodate the ever growing number of people who visit Lawrence's Emergency Room. "We believe our patients will be more comfortable in this new space and enjoy improved access to care," states Edward M. Dinan, President and CEO of Lawrence Hospital Center.

One of the hard to miss features of the new Waiting Room is a beautiful 300 gallon salt water aquarium. It will house a variety of exotic fish which hospital officials say will help create a calming influence in a place where people can be stressed and hurting. Also, the Waiting Area boasts more seating with soft lighting and all new furniture and accessories.

In the adjacent Registration Area, there is a new and expansive registration desk. Its design will allow for improved traffic flow for triage patients and visitors who need assistance. The contemporary space also features designer lighting and sleek wood accents.

This marks the second phase of the Generoso Pope Foundation's Emergency Department renovation project. Construction is already underway on the third and final phase of the plan. It involves the completion of work on the ED's new triage rooms. Previously, there was only one room where patients were seen initially, now Lawrence is adding another and possibly a third room to the department. These new, private and state-of-the-art triage rooms should be open for business by the end of May. The new look of Lawrence Hospital Center's Emergency Department is the brainchild of healthcare architectural design firm, Ellerbe Becket Architects of Washington D.C. The approximate cost of the ED overhaul is seven million dollars – paid for by generous supporters of Lawrence Hospital Center.

Visits to Lawrence's Emergency Department continue to increase annually. Last year, the hospital saw some 35-thousand patients in its ED.
