Emergency Department Adds New Space
Bronxville, NY (August 9, 2006) - Some patients will be spending less time waiting in the Emergency Room at Lawrence Hospital Center, thanks to the completion of the first phase of a newly expanded and renovated Emergency Department. It includes Prompt Care which is now open to patients. This new wing features six state-of-the-art treatment rooms for patients with minor injuries like lacerations, sprains, ear infections, colds and other non-life-threatening conditions. When Prompt Care opened its doors, its first patient was Elayne Loeser. The Yonkers woman came in with a leg injury and was seen by Dr. Michael Lahn and RN, Irene Schlegel.
The ER also offers a new five-bed Admissions Unit. As patients are prepared for admission to the hospital, they can rest comfortably in these modern and spacious private rooms. As a result, there are now more treatment rooms available for incoming ER patients. "Our goal is to improve the quality of care Lawrence has to offer. With the opening of Prompt Care and the new Admissions section, we can do that," explained James Y. Lee, Chief Operating Officer at Lawrence Hospital Center.
As an indicator of its growth, the hospital first expanded its ER in 2000. Since then, it has experienced a nearly 20% jump in patient volume, with ER visits increasing to 35,000 annually. In all, architects will reconfigure and upgrade more than 6,000 square feet of space to accommodate the renovated wing of the Emergency Department. A capital campaign funded by generous donors paid for the six million dollar improvements.
